Propertius (47/45 B.C - c. 15 B.C)Propertius came from an equestrian family, but lost his father when he was young. Some of his land was confiscated for Octavian’s and Antony’s veterans in either 40 or 41. Propertius originally studied law, however, he later switched his focus onto poetry. In his writings, he gave his lover the pseudonym Cynthia. In real life, the name of that lover is Hostia. His patron is Maecenas. During his lifetime, he acknowledges that he was scandalous to do such a thing to write to a lover that was older than him, but that didn't ever stopped him from writing his love elegies.
