Columella (4 A.D – c. 70 AD)It is said that Columella served as a military tribune in Syria. He acquired land in Latium that was close to the land of Seneca the Younger. He is a practical and scientific farmer, and conscious of the dignity and importance of agriculture. He believed that a farmer must work hard and exercise personal supervision. He wrote a 12 book work called De Re Rustica. However, the work was originally meant to be 10 book until Silvans Columella insisted that 2 more books should be added.
