Celsus (c. 25 B.C - c. 50 A.D)Very little information exists that documents Celsus. The only things we have are inferences from his De Medicina and Quintillian's brief commentaries on Celsus. Based on his writings (the topics), historians narrowed his lifetime down to the early empire (Augustus - Claudius). He might also be from Gallia Narbonensis due to the flora (specifically vines) he discusses in his writings. Quintillian, we learned that the De Medicina is a surviving section of a huge corpus of text (an encyclopedia) that dealt with all areas of life, such as rhetoric, law, agriculture, etc. Besides that, Quintillian called Celsus “mediocre vir ingenio”.
