Pliny the Younger (61 A.D - 113 A.D)
Just like his uncle, Pliny the Younger was himself a successful author and politician. While his uncle specialized in a more scientific approach in his writings, Pliny the Younger was great at communications, specifically in the form of letters. As he was involved with both his uncle's works and the works of politicians, he provides insights to imperial culture and that of his uncle's. From his accounts, we get the political tactics and flattery Pliny the Younger had utilized. As a politican, he embarked on a legal career and later the cursus honorum, becoming quaestor, tribune of the plebs, praetor and praefectus aerarii Saturni in 98 AD. He achieved ius trium liberorum, meaning that he gained many more privileges from having more children as an aristocrat. He also took advantage of his position and wealth by buying himself his lovely villae. He died in Bithynia a few years after being appointed there.
