Pomponius Mela (? - c. 45 A.D)Geographers/ Cartographers usually are not featured in the annals of history. It holds true back in ancient Rome. Perhaps the first author of geography among the Romans, his insights to the world were pretty similar to accepted models of those in his days, except for his arguments of possibly more lands. Pliny the Elder cited Pomponius Mela as an important source to his geographical section of his Naturalis Historia. Pomponius Mela writes in archaized form, much like Sallust did. As such, he is often known as a "pure" geographer in Latin literature.
