Seneca the Elder (54 B.C– c. 39 A.D)
Being the father of Seneca the Younger, he brought his son into the rhetoric business. He was educated in Rome. He died before the exile of Seneca the Younger. He married a woman named Helvia and had three sons. All his sons became rhetoricians or were involved in politics. He was the grandfather to Lucan. Seneca devoted himself to study rhetoric and assembled a collection of them as a dedication to his sons. These collections were model exercises on rhetorical themes used in the schools of rhetoric.
